The Medicine of Sound, Movement & Grounding — My Story
I often get asked why I weave sound healing into my yoga classes the way I do — why I don’t offer sound journeys on their own, why I always begin with movement, meditation, and pranayama.
So today, I felt called to share a little more of my story — not as an expert or authority, but simply as a woman who loves what she shares.
I never set out to become a “sound healer.” My foundations were always yoga, meditation, massage therapy, reiki and good reggae vibes - that was my jam, and fittingly so being named after a Bob Marley song. That was my rhythm, the path I walked naturally.
But in 2013, something deeply meaningful happened. My mum — who had worked lovingly with sound bowls for many years — passed her full crystal chakra set down to me. No ceremony, no long explanation. She simply handed them over with the kind of quiet wisdom mothers carry. They’d lived in her world for so long, and suddenly, they were placed in mine.
It wasn’t until after I completed my certified 500-hour yoga teacher training — and stepped into my lifelong journey of continued learning — that it clicked:
These bowls weren’t meant to sit on a shelf.
They weren’t meant to be “my mum’s bowls” anymore.
They were meant to be played. Shared. Offered.
And interestingly, my daughter has always gravitated straight toward one of her grandmother’s bowls since she was tiny — almost instinctively, as though the vibration recognises her. It makes me smile knowing that one day, without a doubt, I’ll hand them down to her. A lineage of vibration, healing, and feminine intuition passing from one generation to the next.
Why I Don’t Offer Sound Healing Alone
When I first experimented with playing the bowls at the end of my classes, it felt like something clicked into place. I’m not the teacher who feels called to pull out a guitar or harmonium mid-class — that can be beautiful, but it’s not my lane. And truthfully, I’ve always wondered if for some teachers, specifically a really good male teacher, secretly just love the sound of their own voice. (No shade — just an honest observation!) That’s not me, Ill spare you from mine!
But the bowls…
The bowls felt like home.
Still, even after all these years, sound healing on its own doesn’t land for me personally. I get restless. Fidgety. Ungrounded. And I’ve learned that it’s because sound — as powerful as it is — needs a vessel.
To receive sound healing, your body needs to be open.
To be open, you must be grounded.
And to be grounded, the nervous system must be soothed, the mind must slow, the breath must deepen, and the physical body must be awakened.
This is the gift of yoga.
Movement is preparation.
A moving meditation clears the channels.
Pranayama regulates and softens the energy body.
Meditation opens the inner space for receiving.
Only then is sound healing truly medicine.
The Importance of Grounding — Especially Now
Most people don’t realise how ungrounded they are — overstimulated, overworked, and living in the upper chakras like permanent residents. No wonder sound journeys feel overwhelming or ineffective for some.
Grounding isn’t optional. It’s essential.
It’s the reason Yin, Hatha, breathwork, and mindful movement are woven into everything I offer — not as extras but as the foundation.
Each to Their Own — Always
There are so many incredible sound healers doing their work in their own way. Some people love lying down immediately and drifting into sound without movement. Beautiful — truly. If that works for you, honour it.
But my path is different. I share what I love. I share what works for me. I share what has supported my students over and over again.
And that’s the beauty of this world — many paths, one intention: healing.
Why I Charge Community Rates
Another thing that comes up often is pricing. Some sound healers charge very high rates for sessions, and that’s their choice — again, each to their own.
I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I genuinely prefer to keep my offerings affordable. The world is expensive enough. Healing — genuine healing — shouldn’t be reserved for the few.
I’d rather have more people walk through the door, breathe deeply, soften, and receive, than hold tightly to boutique pricing.
This practice is my passion. My service. My contribution.
This Is My Why
This is my story. This is my grounding.
This is why I teach the way I teach:
movement → breath → meditation → sound.
A whole-body journey back into presence.
Thank you for reading, for receiving, and for walking this path with me.
From my heart to yours,
Kaja
