SACRED SPRING EQUINOX

Sacred Spring Equinox & New Moon in Libra

Date: September 22 — Sun enters Libra / Spring Equinox & New Moon

Theme: Balance, renewal, relationship, creativity, and the unfolding of the Wood Element.

The Spring Equinox is one of the great thresholds of the year: a cosmic balance point where day and night are equal, where darkness and light meet in harmony. When this moment aligns with a New Moon in Libra, the energies converge to offer us a potent opportunity to reset, renew, and re-align.

It is a time of rebirth, fertility, and fresh beginnings. Just as the earth awakens and buds unfurl, we too are invited to soften, release what no longer serves, and step into the vitality of spring with clarity and balance.

The Meaning of the Spring Equinox

Across cultures, the equinox has been honored as a sacred turning of the wheel:

  • Balance: Equal day and night symbolize harmony between inner and outer life, masculine and feminine, giving and receiving.

  • Renewal: Spring brings new energy for growth, projects, and possibilities.

  • Community & Ceremony: People have long gathered to mark this day with rituals, songs, and offerings to honor the cycles of life.

New Moon in Libra

The New Moon is always a time of planting seeds. With the Sun also moving into Libra at the equinox, this lunation carries the energy of:

  • Relationships & Reciprocity — bringing awareness to where we give too much or not enough.

  • Balance & Harmony — Libra inspires beauty, fairness, and alignment between self and others.

  • Shift of Energy — from lower chakra survival into higher chakra expression: heart, throat, and vision.

This is a day to set intentions around harmony, love, creative partnerships, and clear communication.

The Wisdom of the Wood Element (TCM)

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, spring corresponds to the Wood Element.

  • Organs: Liver (yin) and Gallbladder (yang).

  • Qualities: growth, movement, vision, courage, flexibility.

  • Balanced state: clarity, creativity, decisive action.

  • Imbalance: frustration, irritability, feeling stuck.

Through Yin Yoga, we nurture the wood element by working with the liver and gallbladder meridians — especially through long-held stretches that open the hips, side body, and inner legs. This clears stagnation, supports emotional release, and renews the body’s natural flow.

Rituals for the Equinox & New Moon

Some simple yet powerful ways to honor this day:

  1. Plant Intentions — write 1–3 new moon wishes and bury them in soil or under a tree.

  2. Balance Practice — move through a yoga flow or breath practice that emphasizes left/right balance.

  3. Sound & Stillness — light a candle, play a singing bowl or chant, and sit in silence.

  4. Relationship Inventory — journal where your energy exchange is balanced or imbalanced, and set one small change.

  5. Nature Connection — walk barefoot, notice spring’s scents, or place your palms on a tree to tune into its rising sap.
